Welcome to Northside

A hodgepodge of industrial and commercial buildings mixed with historic homes. The last decade has seen large apartment and condo developments add a dimension of ultra-modern design, while many of the historic homes have been renovated. The landscape now has an eclectic feeling of old and new.

All this faces the estuary that divides Alameda from Oakland. On the rental side was the renovated Del Monte factory, an early 20th-century facility that took up a whole city block and lay dormant for decades. Within its perimeter, new apartments were built, mixing the brick and steel of the old factory with new apartments with large windows and stucco exteriors.

Launch is another apartment project with luxury apartments built along Clement Avenue. The Alameda Marina faces the waterfront and offers luxury townhomes along with park spaces. City parks, Little John and Jean Sweeney, provide green spaces for gathering and playing. The Grand Marina, with its nautical flair, offers a kayak launch point. The Alameda Animal Shelter is also in the neighborhood, where families can rescue a dog or cat to build their Alameda family.
