This lovely neighborhood is a short walk to Park Street and Alameda’s downtown. Its leafy streets, lovely 1920’s homes and quiet charm give a suburban vibe, but in fact it is near major arteries, two bridges, shopping, schools and parks. Fernside started as a subdivision in the 1920s and a vestige of that remains in its HOA. Each home pays under $150 a year.
 
The neighborhood is one of Alameda’s premier neighborhoods, and is in a district to high-scoring schools. Its friendly community also hosts Alameda’s beloved Christmas Tree Lane on Thompson Ave. The entire block is decorated and visitors come from around the Bay to stroll the street, and admire the festive decorations during the holidays.
