    Montclair
Montclair is a hillside neighborhood in Oakland. Bordered by Highway 24 to the north, Joaquin Miller Road to the south, the city of Piedmont to the west, and the Contra Costa County border to the east. The center of the neighborhood is a compact shopping district known as Montclair Village.

The hillside location, and compact commercial district give the area the feel of a small village. The school, and park are other focal centers for the neighborhood. Homes can have level lots, or very steep hillsides leaving decking as the only usable outdoor space. The thick woods also make much of the neighborhood into a fire zone with ensuing challenges in finding affordable insurance.

In the village itself, you will find a bookstore, crafts stores, sushi restaurants, neighborhood breakfast diners and donut shops, clothing stores, sandwich shops, family eateries, and most services needed. On Sunday the farmers market brings in not only the neighborhood residents but others from adjoining neighborhoods for fresh and organic fruits and vegetables and a town fair ambience.

Much of the housing in the hills was built midcentury, although there is some variety, and condos available in the village center.
