Located on the eastern edge of Alameda Island, East End exudes a timeless charm. It is one of the oldest and most established neighborhoods in Alameda. The neighborhood is made up of overwhelmingly vintage homes from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The neighborhood is home to two elementary schools (Edison and Otis), as well as Lincoln Middle School.
It is a verdant neighborhood with tree lined streets and a few parks. No need to leave the neighborhood to find restaurants, with a variety along Encinal. The shopping center at Encinal and High Street has a food mart, and bakery in addition to restaurant offerings.
The Altarena Theater puts on productions several times a year. The theater is on the eastern edge of lovely Lincoln Park.
