South Shore

South Shore

Famous for its sandy beaches, recreational activities, and stunning views.

Welcome to South Shore

The Southshore area saw significant growth in the mid-1900s with the development of homes, schools, and parks.

Today, the Southshore area is a thriving residential community with homes and condominiums mostly built in the 1960s and 70s.

The Southshore

The Shopping Center is the commercial center of the neighborhood and of the city as a whole. The shopping center is home to the bigger national chains, where smaller businesses are more likely to be along Park Street and Webster Street.

Those who want to be close to the beach choose Southshore. Many of the condominium buildings are along Shoreline Drive and overlook the Bay and the San Francisco skyline. The coast here is known as a good spot for kiteboarding, making for some colorful views on good wind days as surfers are towed by kites (which look like colorful parachutes for the uninitiated). The area has some more affordable Alameda housing, as some of the houses are smaller and the inventory of condominiums is more generous than in other parts of the market.
