Harbor Bay

Harbor Bay

Has a suburban feel, top-rated schools, and lovely parks.

Welcome to Harbor Bay

This section of Alameda was originally known as Bay Farm Island, but ironically is connected to Oakland by land and is not an island at all. When it was expanded by landfill, the new area was known as Harbor Bay.

Harbor Bay has a more suburban feel, even while being close to the more bustling main island of Alameda. The original Bay Farm Island is home to some older homes built between the 1920s and 1960s. Three townhome developments were built in the 1970s. In the 80s, more townhomes were built, and single-family homes were added in the 1990s.

The area enjoys top-rated schools and lovely parks. Commercial activity is focused on the shopping center at the intersection of Island Drive and McCartney Road. Commuters can access ACI buses or ferries that leave regularly from the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal.
