The Montclair Village Sunday, Mapped From the Trailhead Down

July 9, 2026

Most write-ups of Montclair Village lead with the Bavarian rooflines and the 200-plus shops. That framing gets the geography backwards. The Village isn't a shopping district that happens to sit near some trails. It's a trailhead with a shopping district attached, and the summer of 2026 is the season that finally makes that legible on the ground.

If you already live up here, you know the feeling. You park at the La Salle garage, walk twenty feet, and you can be on a paved rail bed heading toward Shepherd Canyon, or on a dirt path dropping into a creek that runs all the way to the Oakland Estuary. The plaza is the hinge. This summer, the Montclair Village Association is treating it that way for the first time.

The claim, said plainly

Montclair rewards residents who use the Village as a bookend, not a destination. The best Sundays here begin at the farmers' market with a coffee, spend three hours in the canyon, and end at a Village restaurant that was empty when you started and packed by the time you sit down. The infrastructure for this loop has always been here. What changed in 2026 is that the plaza itself now hosts programming timed to catch you on the way back.

What's actually new on the plaza this summer
